Overview & Rates

The Bear Cottage Cabin at Lake Tahoe provides an ideal Tapawingo Experience. With its combination of exceptional privacy (being surrounded by acres of conservancy land) and a fabulous central location which is only 2 blocks from the lake, time here truly brings the Lake Tahoe adventure to life.

Just minutes from Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows ski resorts, and only 10 minutes from the Coast Guard boat launch at Lake Forest Road, the Bear Cottage Cabin allows you to enjoy the best Tahoe has to offer.  The cabin provides easy access to the Tahoe Rim Trail, snowmobiling, cross country skiing at Paige Meadow, sledding on our private road or at Granlibakken Resort.  Quadding (ATVs) and hiking trails are conveniently located right outside our back door. Snowmobiles can be made available for your use, for an additional fee.

Our standard (non-holiday) rates for the Bear Cottage Cabin are shown below. Check-in time is 4:00 PM and check-out time is 10:00 AM. There is a two-night minimum for each of our properties during off-peak times and each requires a one-time, non-refundable cleaning fee (shown below after rental rates). There is a 10% occupancy tax.  In addition, a $500 refundable security deposit will be required.  During the holidays, these properties are only available for a full week (except for Thanksgiving which is 5 days) and rates are higher. Please visit www.vrbo.com/103696 for the current rates. Holiday periods include December 15 – January 5, President’s Week, Easter Week, Independence Day and Thanksgiving. Cleaning fees remain the same. To make a reservation, we require payment up front and a signed rental agreement, which will be prepared for you when you are ready to move forward to secure your reservation.


Standard Rates

  • A maximum of 4 overnight guests are welcomed at the rate of $350 per night (cleaning fee $300).
  • Extra guests (over 4) are $50 per night/per person and if you have extra guests, the cleaning fee will be raised by $50

At your request to move forward, a rental agreement will be prepared for you and will be sent via email.  You will need to print out that agreement, complete requested information, initials and signatures as indicated, and return the signed rental agreement with your check to the property owner (all details will be in the rental agreement).  Upon the "return in good order" of the property, your security deposit will be returned to you. While the property owner prefers payment by personal check, we are willing to process a credit card payment for you though PayPal, but we will add a 4% surcharge for special handling and credit fees we will have to pay to book your reservation.

Events are charged separately, and depend on the total number of additional day-use guests that will be included in your plans. Events will incur an additional “event cleaning fee” and a separate, refundable “event security deposit.” If you are planning to hold any events, you will need to provide us with the details (type of event, number of day-use guests, special equipment, etc.,) so that we may provide a more detailed quote to meet your specific needs.
